The first time we walked into this house, we felt a bit intimidated. The existing design had a strong personality—spaces that spoke gently and harmoniously with the original architecture. But we were faced with a familiar challenge: making room for change. The new inhabitants—a young couple expecting their first child—brought new needs, fresh energy, and the chance to reimagine the layout. They invited us to find a creative solution that would honor the soul of the home while adapting it for what’s to come.In our initial meetings, we always focus on listening. Understanding what a family envisions for their home is almost like translating: turning ideas, emotions, and habits into form, materials, and light.

Honestly, this is my favorite part of the process—that moment when everything is still possible. When all you have is a wish list, a floor plan, a pencil, and tracing paper. When there are no wrong answers—only ideas waiting to unfold.

As we walk through the space, beyond taking measurements, the house begins to speak. It reveals stories of those who lived there before—memories lingering in the walls. In this case, we found an unexpected clue: a framed newspaper clipping revealing that the former owners were avid orchid collectors.

Suddenly, a forgotten garden corner made perfect sense. We imagined a pergola covered in hanging orchids, part of a collection that once brought joy and pride to this home. The wilted plants scattered around the house seemed to whisper their history too. I felt the need to ask permission from the past to begin anew. To allow the home to be renewed by the life of a family just starting out. This house, nestled in a pocket of tropical forest, offers green views from every window. It shelters you. Wraps you in nature.

It welcomes you with spaciousness in the social areas and then cradles you in its lateral wings—gently distinguishing between connection and rest.

Finishes are soft, colors serene, natural light abundant, and artificial lighting varied and thoughtful. Textures and lines bring calm and order.

And so, between traces of history and new beginnings, this home in Coconut Grove transforms. It’s not just a renovation. It’s the continuation of a story—with a fresh chapter just beginning.
