The Metamorphosis of an Urban Dwelling into an Organic Home Surrounded by Green Landscapes
What happens when architecture outgrows itself—when its users evolve and its spirit longs for transformation?. Housing is a fascinating theme, constantly reshaping itself in countless expressions, forming the poetic language of dwelling, the intention behind this transformation was to welcome a new concept of home—one where nature takes the lead, shaping the spaces around the daily life of the family.
Situated on a 937 m² lot, the original 655 m² house was an icon of 1980s design. Distributed over three levels: a first floor with an entrance hall and guest room; an upper level with four bedrooms and a private family area; and a lower level housing the living room, dining room, bar, office, kitchen, guest bathroom, service area, grill, and pool, with a gabled roof, modular windows with iron bars, and a front entrance flanked by two round columns, the home reflected a distinctive architectural identity of its time.
The project preserves much of the existing structure. It proposes the demolition of the guest room to make way for a two-level extension, excavated at the social area level. The new volume includes a guest suite on the ground floor, a double-height indoor garden with a skylight, and an additional bedroom upstairs.
The new architecture flows organically, interweaving with the surrounding greenery to bring clarity and rhythm to the home’s internal dynamics. Additional expansions—like the office, library, and balconies—reshape the exterior envelope of the house, which now evolves into a composition of planes, lines, and volumes softly overtaken by nature and light, a timeless palette of materials and fleeting, carefully crafted atmospheres define the space. With a new surface area of 813 m², the house becomes a living artwork—where the natural world is not an addition, but a vital part of its essence.
